China Glaze Ombre Kits

I regularly stalk the "new manicure & pedicure products" page on Sally Beauty Supply's website. These little gems popped up on there recently. They're China Glaze Ombre kits. I bought Sweet Sensations and Grape Expectations. There's another one called Wait Teal You See that I haven't bought just yet!

China Glaze Ombre Sweet Sensations
The China Glaze Ombre Sweet Sensations kit includes Angel's Breath, Something Sweet, Dance Baby, and Make an Entrance.

They also include 10 sponges to assist you in your ombre/gradient endeavors.

China Glaze Ombre Grape Expectations
The China Glaze Ombre Grape Expectations kit includes Sweet Hook, Spontaneous, Grape Pop, and Crimson.

The back has instructions on how to do the ombre/gradient.

Wait Teal You See includes White on White, For Audrey, Aquadelic, and Turned Up Turquoise.

The price for these kits are $14.99 ($3.75 per bottle) without a beauty club card or $13.49 ($3.37 per bottle) with a beauty club card. How awesome is that? My China Glaze collection nearly doubled because of these. Woohoo! I will definitely be getting Wait Teal You See as well!

Update: The March sales flyer for Sally Beauty says these are on sale for $12.99!

Pokemon Nails

Today is my fiance's birthday! I did up some Pokemon nails to wear for the day.

Please forgive the streaked eyes and glob of lotion on my middle finger. Didn't see it until editing the photo. I did the pokeball on my thumb, Pikachu (crookedly) on my index finger, Turtwig on my middle finger, Meowth on my ring finger and Jigglypuff on my pinky.

This did not turn out as well as I had envisioned, of course! Took me 5+ hours and I got super hungry in the middle. Since I didn't stop and eat, I got very shaky. To top it all off, my fiance (Chris) didn't even fully recognize what was on my fingers :( We even have some plush Turtwigs around the house and a huge Meowth pillow in the bed. He thought Jigglypuff was Peanut from Animal Crossing, LOL!

Colors used: Black Lace Creme (NYC), It's Up to Blue (Orly), Kalahari Kiss (China Glaze), Let's Meet (Sinful Colors), Love (Pure Ice) , Matte Nirvana (Sinful Colors), Rapid Red (Sally Hanson), Sage all the Rage (Rimmel London), Shock (LA Colors), Snow Me White (Sinful Colors), Unicorn (Sinful Colors), and Yellow (LA Colors). Topped with Seche Vite.

Maybe She's Born With It

Another simple glitter sandwich today! I used three coats of Born With It by Maybelline, a coat of In Love (I think?) by Sally Girl and another thin coat of Born With It. Topped with a coat of Seche Vite.

I love the subtleness of glitter sandwiches. It's glitter but not IN YOUR FACE glitter. A pale pink glitter sandwich? In love! Haha, I'm punny.

The Sally Girl glitter was actually a little fussy to work with. Not much glitter payoff and it all wanted to pile up at the tip of my nail. So I had to dab in a few spots.

What is this?

When I won that giveaway, I said that those were my first OPIs and apparently, I was lying. My fiance found this little gift set of OPI minis in the closet.

That's Avoplex Nail & Cuticle Replenishing Oil, Nail Envy, an unnamed polish, and RapiDry top coat. They came in a cute little purple quilted clutch. There's a little mirror glued to the inside, too. I don't know how long I've had this. I'm guessing MANY YEARS. The polish looked like I've used it before as it was dried up a bit and this color was right up my alley of what I would wear before I really got into nail polish. I'd still wear it but I'm just saying that before, I'd only wear a certain range of colors and this was right in it. I added some nail polish thinner to it before taking the photo.

Can anyone identify what polish this is? Recognize this set or anything? I googled around a bit and couldn't find this gift set. I had no idea I had this. Can't remember who got it for me or anything! I feel terrible about it. Nail Envy is even on my wishlist! What?!

I'm wearing it in this picture. Still applies wonderfully :)

Sinful Colors Bali Mist

I saw this polish in the store a few times and passed right over it because it didn't look too appealing. Something about the looks of it in the bottle screamed "Grandma!" (no offense to Grandmas, people that have Grandmas or know a Grandma... Grandmas are awesome) to me. Then, I saw Amanda's post where she layered it over a dark color and everything changed.

Look at all the colors that show up! This is two coats of Bali Mist by Sinful Colors over Black Lace Creme by NYC with one coat of Out the Door top coat. More pictures to show the colors:

Gradient Redo

When I first got into nail art, the first thing I ever tried was gradient nails. In my first post on this blog, I shared some of my earlier attempts at "nail art." One of them was a gradient using East Village by NYC and Purple Pizzazz Frost by NYC and it was UGLY.  So I redid it!

I used three(!) coats of East Village and then sponged on Purple Pizzazz Frost a few times. Seche Vite on top.

It reminds me of something from my childhood but I can't pinpoint what it is. Fishing lures, maybe?

This one shows it with LA City Nights by Jordana on my thumb and ring finger. I chose that glitter because it's pretty much the same colors as East Village and Purple Pizzazz Frost. Unfortunately, I don't think it shows very well in photos. It's lovely in person though!

Mattified with NYC Matte Me Crazy. You can see the two glitters better matte.

This was the original done in October of 2012 using the same polishes. I've improved a little bit, no?

Black, White & Pink Skittles

This took me forever to do. I had to do the index finger twice and the middle finger thrice. Pretty frustrating!

The dots on my thumb were done using a dotting tool with Fuchsia Shock Creme by NYC & Snow Me White by Sinful Colors on a base of Black on Black by Sinful Colors.

Index finger has a base of Snow Me White with Cheeky plate CH11 stamped on in Fuchsia Shock Creme. I then used the dotting tool to add dots.

Middle finger has a base of Black on Black and I freehanded the bow with Love by Pure Ice and Fuchsia Shock Creme. I tried stamping a bow, a mix of stamping and freehand, and then just freehanded it. I'm still not happy with it. I actually did this before my Valentine's nails which is why I didn't include a bow in it at all.

Ring finger has a base of Black on Black and freehanded stripes of Fuchsia Shock Creme.

Pinkie finger has a base of Snow Me White and stamped with Cheeky plate CH12 in Black on Black.

This disasterpiece was inspired by a bedroom!

OPI Merry Midnight

I got Merry Midnight by OPI in my prize package from TrailerHood Chic. This polish is gorgeous.

Here it is in all its glory. It's soooo pretty. I got a little overzealous with cleanup on my middle finger, sorry. This is three coats of Merry Midnight with one coat of Seche Vite. Googling this polish, I found out that it's hard to find and goes for $30+ on eBay. I feel a bit guilty for owning it this early in my polish-hood. I don't know if I can do it justice.

Here it is mattified with NYC Matte Me Crazy. I love it even more mattified. There's something about matte flakie polishes that's so beautiful.

My First Glitter Sandwich

I can't believe I hadn't tried this before. It's so simple and pretty!

I did two coats of Unicorn by Sinful Colors, a coat of Party of Five Glitters by Wet N Wild, then another coat of Unicorn. Topped it with one coat of Seche Vite. I think it's cute and it vaguely reminds me of Where My Peeps At? but obviously not as good!

Orly It's Up to Blue vs Sinful Colors Gorgeous

I thought these two looked really similar in the bottle so I wanted to compare them on the nail.

Bottle shots.
As you can see from the sticker, I found It's Up to Blue by Orly for 50% off at CVS :) I bought this at the same time as Hawaiian Punch. On to the swatches!

This is two coats of It's Up to Blue by Orly on my thumb, middle and pinkie fingers and two coats of Gorgeous by Sinful Colors on my index and ring fingers. The formulas for both were equally fantastic.

Gorgeous looks a tad more green here. No dupes but really close!

I Won a Giveaway!

I've been feeling a bit icky so I haven't done my nails since my Valentine's nails. I received some mail today that perked me right up. Giveaway winnings!

Lace & Lacquers and Naked Without Polish hosted a ginormous "I Survived 12/21/12" giveaway with 40 winners. It was that HUGE! I was lucky enough to win prize #34 from TrailerHood Chic.

The loot!
The polishes included in the prize are Merry Midnight by OPI, Servin' Up Sparkle by OPI, and an unnamed Sally Girl polish which I think might be In Love (correct me if I'm wrong). These are untried brands for me so I'm super excited. Yep, these are my very first OPI polishes! There's also a sparkly file and Wishful White lotion by Beyond Belief. It smells divine. I just put some on. It's awesome.

Look at those earrings! These are by Mont Bleu and I had actually eyed these a couple of months ago. You see, I hadn't worn earrings for about 10 years. In November, I let my fiance give me a pixie cut. Yes, I'm so fearless that I let my man go at my hair with scissors... BEFORE MAJOR HOLIDAYS! Because of that, I decided to start wearing earrings again since my ears were suddenly visible. I've been wearing a cheap pair I got at Walmart but now I'll be wearing these babies. Woo fate!

Also included was some Breast Cancer Awareness goodies. I lost my dear Aunt Faye to breast cancer in January so this was another little thing that just makes me think that Harri of TrailerHood Chic is my nail mail soulmate.

Thank you to Lacey, Becky and Harri for the wonderful giveaway! I can't wait to try the polishes out once I stop feeling icky.

P.S. I'm always updating my Giveaways page and Giveaways board on Pinterest so check them out for chances to win!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This is a rather unusual Valentine's manicure but I saw a bedroom set that inspired me. It DOES say "Love" so it kind of counts!

There's a heart hiding my injury. This was all freehanded using Snow Me White by Sinful Colors, Big Apple Red Creme by NYC, Wild Thing by Pure Ice, and Swizzle Stix by Barielle.

I used a little brush to do stripes and a dotting tool for the dots. Topped with Seche Vite.

Inspiration! Source.
I didn't have a blue that pale so I went with my palest. Oh well!

I wanted to take a minute and show you two of my sister's foster dogs, Joseph and Sherry. They look so cute decked out for Valentine's Day.

Joseph
Sherry
You can see more of them and the rest of the gang at my sister's foster dog blog and Facebook.

Have a happy Valentine's Day! :)

Flower Beauty: Good Bud-Dy

Has anyone else tried Flower Beauty nail polish? Flower is by Drew Barrymore and is found exclusively at Walmart... though, not at my Walmart. I had to go to the next nearest Walmart to find them. My Walmart really sucks. I picked up Good Bud-Dy, a teal polish, during my last trip out of town. Pictures show two coats of Good Bud-Dy with one coat of Out the Door top coat.

The formula was good. Self-leveled well. Dry time was fantastic. Not a whole lot to talk about other than it's good!

I'm hiding a bit of my finger since I had an accident opening a box of crackers! LOL, what? Leave it to me to injure myself opening a harmless box of food.

After you open the bottle, the sticker with the name of the polish comes off. Fortunately, there's a little sticker on the bottom that has the name of the polish. Unfortunately, it's very hard to read.

Warning: This color STAINED my nails.

I can't wait to see if they add more colors to the line.

Zoya Aurora

I took advantage of Zoya's promotion in January where you get 3 nail polishes free and just pay $10 shipping. One of the polishes I received was Aurora. It's gorgeous. Application was wonderful!

Zoya Aurora is part of the Ornate collection. From the Zoya website:

Zoya Nail Polish in Aurora can be best described as a full coverage, medium sugarplum purple flecked with a high concentration of micro fine diamond holographic glitter. The rainbow holographic sparkle turns this plum purple into something truly captivating.

Indeed! All pictures show two coats of Zoya Aurora with one coat of Out the Door top coat.

Orly Hawaiian Punched with Glitz

I found Hawaiian Punch by Orly for 50% off at CVS and couldn't pass it up. It's a hot pink/fuchsia with subtle shimmer. Very pretty!

Application was fantastic. It was opaque with one coat but I always like to do two. Shown with one coat of Seche Vite.

That shimmer!

I've had Glitz 'N Pieces by China Glaze for a few days and was really wanting to use it so I put it on a couple of nails over Hawaiian Punch.

One coat of Glitz 'N Pieces gives that much glitter! Topped with a coat of Seche Vite.

I was at Sally Beauty Supply the other day and received a free sample (0.18oz / 5.3mL) of Orly Argan Cuticle Oil.  This stuff is awesome. My boyfriend said it smells like Pledge but I love the smell. I've used it only a couple of times but it seems to really work. My cuticles have never been better.

The directions say to massage onto cuticles of bare or polished nails to nourish and condition. To maintain nail and cuticle health, reapply daily at bedtime.

Also, Orly is on HauteLook.com right now!

Simple Doticure

I was browsing pattern sites today for nail inspiration. I came across a brown one with pink dots. I love the combination of brown and pink so I wanted it on my nails!

I used Matte Nirvana (which is not matte!) by Sinful Colors for the base. I used a dotting tool to add dots in Fashionista by Confetti, Dance Party Pink by Confetti, and Snow Me White by Sinful Colors. A coat of Seche Vite to top it off.

I really love this. It's so simple and took very little time to do. The pink and brown (chocolate!) makes it a bit Valentine's Day-ish, right?

The inspiration! Source.
A few days ago, I tried Dance Party Pink on by itself and I must say, it's much better using it for dots/nail art than by itself. It went on very streaky and left bald spots after three coats.

Of course, I had to see what it was like mattified with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

I like it more this way :)
