Oh, Swizzle Stix!

I did not mean to neglect my nails and blog this much! Animal Crossing has seriously taken over my life. I love that game! I still haven't been able to do any nail art. Inspiration, come to me!

This is two coats of Swizzle Stix with NYC Grand Central Station acting as a top coat. Looks pretty good considering I've been wearing it for four days!

This is my favorite Barielle polish (so far)! It makes me happy. I've used it in quite a bit of nail art: Born Pretty Water Decals, Waves and Dots, my Valentine's Day nails, and Tulips for Amanda's Mom.

OPI Solitaire + Gradient

You remember when I said I was on a no-buy? Well, I had some Amazon.com credits so I bought OPI Solitaire! I've wanted this ever since I saw it on SwatchAndLearn.com.

This is two thin coats of OPI Solitaire. No top coat.

Application was easy and it has excellent dry time.

I wanted to do a gradient with Solitaire as a base so I pulled out my swatch sticks of the JulieG Frosted Gumdrops collection and went with Crushed Candy.

I did the gradient in my usual way, by painting the polishes directly on my makeup wedge and sponging it on. Oh my goodness. It was like I had cement all over my fingers afterwards. Cleanup, meh!

So pretty! I can imagine that using Blueberry Fizz would make a beautiful icy look for winter.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf

Wow. I spent the whole day running around trying to find a store with the special edition Animal Crossing: New Leaf 3DS XL bundle. I did some nail art to match it!

Here's my nails with my 3DS :)

The polishes used are White on White (China Glaze), High Line Green (NYC), Daisy (LA Colors), Big Apple Red Creme (NYC), Pelican Gray (China Glaze). I did it all with a dotting tool and some toothpicks.

I'm off to play my new game now!

Hello Kitty!

When I purchased the Born Pretty Store $20 gift card for my last giveaway (see what Kat bought with her win!), I also ordered a couple of things for myself. It was around the time that they redesigned their site and they were sending a free gift with every purchase. My free gift was Hello Kitty nail stickers. I can't find them on the Born Pretty Store site, though, so I can't link you to them.

I didn't want my fingers to look too busy so I showed restraint and used just two stickers per hand.

I wanted the stickers to be the main focus so I went with a subtle design. I used Something Sweet (China Glaze) and Dance Party Pink (Confetti) to do dots and stripes.

The stickers were super simple to apply. Just peel them and stick them. Top coated with Out the Door. My striping tape got some black fuzzy stuff on it. Boo :(

Space Cadet

I'm totally sucking at blogging lately. Last week, it was a injured cuticle. This week, I've been unable to produce anything blogworthy. There's been at least three failed attempts at nail art and even some simple swatches that have gone horribly awry. I'm in a frustrating finger funk and feeling very uninspired. On top of that, I'm on a self-imposed no-buy for the month of June because I'm going to purchase a Nintendo 3DS XL when Animal Crossing: New Leaf is released on the 9th. Anyone else play the Animal Crossing series? I've been playing the various versions of it since December 2003. It's so fun and super cute. I'm so excited for the new game!

My boyfriend surprised me with a polish that's been on my wish list for some time: Orly Space Cadet. It did not disappoint!

This is two coats of Orly Space Cadet over black. I used NYC Grand Central Station for top coat.

This is the second time I've attempted to swatch this. The first time, I didn't leave enough time between polishing my nails and getting ready for a doctor's appointment so they got messed up.

What do you do if/when you find yourself unable to, um, perform? LOL!

NYC High Line Green

Sorry for not posting for a while. I had a little accident while doing some cuticle maintenance and the thought of acetone anywhere near me had me shaking in my flip-flops. It's doing better now so back to paintin' my nails!

Chameleon Stampede wants to see everyone's favorite greens. My favorite is NYC High Line Green.

I've used it in nail art (such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Tulips for Amanda's Mom) but never worn it on its own. This is two coats with NYC Grand Central Station as a top coat. It's just a simple green creme. No glitter, no shimmer. It's still my favorite green!

High on Hope

How is everyone spending their Memorial Day? I'm still watching the new episodes of Arrested Development on Netflix. I attempted to do Arrested Development themed nails for Sunday but it was a huge disaster (I've made a huge mistake!). I did two nails and scrapped the whole thing because it was so terrible.

I'm left with a simple swatch for today. Orly's High on Hope. High on Hope is part of the Hope and Freedom Fest collection along with Elation Generation.

This is two coats of High on Hope with NYC Grand Central Station acting as a top coat. For some reason, it looks pretty thin on the tips of my ring and pinky nails. It's just in the pictures though. Weird. It's still a pretty polish!

Here you can see the colorful shimmer!

LA Colors Tropical Set

While I was at Family Dollar picking up some lotion, I came across a set of 6 polishes from LA Colors called "Tropical" for $5. I have to thank my boyfriend for this because I wouldn't have noticed it at all if he hadn't pointed it out. I have no idea if these are new or old, just new to me! None of the polishes have names but they are super fun neons! All photos below show each color with white underwear on my ring and pinky fingers but alone on my index and middle fingers unless otherwise stated. They all have NYC Grand Central Station as a top coat.

The Orange One

The Pink One

The Highlighter Marker One

This one absolutely needs white underwear. If you apply it without (not pictured), it just looks like really nasty stained nails.

The Green One

Still a few streaks left on the underwear-less nails after three coats.

The Blue One

This blue is very pigmented. It's almost a one coater. The white underwear was totally unnecessary! There was some very slight staining with this one.

The Purple One

The first coat of this one tricks you. It comes out so incredibly streaky that you think it's hopeless. The second coat fixes most of it and it's perfect by the third coat.

Overall
I'm glad I picked this set up. I like that they look good with or without white underwear with the obvious exception of the highlighter one. I think I actually prefer the purple one without underwear. They were all easy to work with. $5 for 6 fun polishes? Awesome!

Have you seen or own this set?

Orly Black Pixel + Silver Pixel

I recently picked up two of the new MegaPixel FX polishes from Orly: Black Pixel and Silver Pixel. I picked these out because of the "buy any 2 Orly's, get a free full size Argan Oil Cuticle Drops" deal going on at Sally Beauty Supply. Plus, I really wanted a black textured polish!

This is two thin coats of Black Pixel, no top coat. Of the textured polishes I've tried so far, this is one of the smoothest.

The dry time was good! Application wasn't nearly as effortless as with the JulieG Frosted Gumdrops collection but not bad at all.

I do love this!

I decided to spruce it up a bit and add some accents in Orly Silver Pixel on my ring finger and thumb.

Orly Fowl Play

Hello! I have Orly Fowl Play to show you today.

This is two coats of Orly Fowl Play with NYC Grand Central Station acting as a top coat. I think it's gorgeous.

Look at the colors of flakes!

It's pretty much mandatory to show flakie polishes with matte top coat, right?

Fowl Play is a really really close dupe to OPI Merry Midnight. Fowl Play requires only two coats though as opposed to Merry Midnight's three. Merry Midnight is also a smidge more of a juicier purple.

Vintage: Cutex Ultra Sable

Here's a blast from my past! My boyfriend found my old backpack that I owned from high school. I'm about to turn 35 in July so high school was a long time ago. Inside it was a bottle of nail polish: Cutex Ultra Sable.

I'm guessing this is from the very late '90s. See how nasty the side of the bottle is? I'm surprised I got enough polish out of this to swatch one hand. I had to add a ton of polish thinner to it in order to use. It has a metallic finish so it's rather brushstroke-y and shows every little imperfection. Application was ROUGH but I'm sure that's because of its age. I had to top it with Seche Vite because I don't think it would have dried on its own so it looks even more wonky with weird shrunken bits.

After I swatched my one hand, I showed it to my boyfriend and he said "I like it!" I was probably wearing it when we met. Does Cutex even make nail polish anymore?!
